LibreOffice 4.0.0

LibreOffice is een uitstekende gratis vervanger van Microsoft Office - en een afsplitsing van het bekende OpenOffice.org-project. LibreOffice is momenteel het populairste gratis kantoorpakket op GratisSoftware.nl.

LibreOffice 4.0 is vandaag uitgebracht door The Document Foundation. Dit is een grote update voor het open source kantoorpakket - waarmee definitief een andere weg wordt ingeslagen dan OpenOffice. Met name onder de motorkap zijn grote veranderingen doorgevoerd, waardoor LibreOffice steeds minder lijkt op OpenOffice.

Belangrijkste vernieuwing voor zakelijk gebruik is dat LibreOffice 4.0 nu - via de CMIS standaard - geïntegreerd kan worden met diverse content management systemen en document management systemen, zoals het gratis Alfresco en Microsoft SharePoint.

Verder is de ondersteuning voor docx en rtf sterk verbeterd, waardoor documenten beter uitgewisseld kunnen worden. Bovendien kunnen Microsoft Publisher bestanden nu geïmporteerd worden en zijn de importfilters voor Microsoft Visio verder vervolmaakt.

Ook moet spreadsheet programma Calc in deze uitgave veel sneller werken. Het laden en opslaan van grote ODS en XLSX bestanden moet sowieso veel vlugger gaan. Verder kunnen in Calc grafieken als afbeelding (png en jpeg) geëxporteerd worden.

In tekstverwerker Writer kun je eindelijk een aparte koptekst en voettekst voor de eerste pagina van een document maken. En PDF Import, dat vroeger een losse extensie was, is nu een kernfunctie geworden die opgenomen is in LibreOffice.

De interface is ook wat aangepast en het is mogelijk - voor de liefhebber - om Firefox-thema's te gebruiken om het uiterlijk van LibreOffice wat op te fleuren. Dit is mogelijk onder het menu Extra | Opties - LibreOffice - Persoonlijke voorkeur aanpassen. In Ubuntu is LibreOffice 4 nu helemaal geïntegreerd in Unity.

Ten slotte is er een Impress Remote Control app voor Android waarmee je - voorlopig alleen nog in Linux, maar Windows en Mac OS X volgen - Impress-presentaties kunt bedienen via je telefoon.

LibreOffice 4 is gratis te verkrijgen voor Windows, Mac OS X en Linux. Het kantoorpakket is natuurlijk ook vertaald in het Nederlands.

• Improved code contribution thanks to Gerrit: a web based code review system, facilitating the task for projects using Git version control system (although this is not specific of LibreOffice 4.0, it has entered the production stage just before the 4.0 branch).

Overall excellent backwards compatibility is retained for legacy extensions, but moving forward TDF is committed to a more pro-active approach to evolving the UNO APIs, with more functionality to be deprecated, and eventually dropped, in due time – according to the six month release cycle – throughout the LibreOffice 4.x release series.

During the last seven months, since the branch of LibreOffice 3.6 and during the entire development cycle of LibreOffice 4.0, developers have made over 10,000 commits. On average, one commit every 30 minutes, including weekends and the holiday season: a further testimonial of the incredible vitality of the project.
